Maneesh Verma
National School of Drama Graduate
Artistic director of Actors’ Cult Theatre group. He is an actor at his heart but as soon as he passed out from drama school, he realised that most challenging aspect for any artist is to stay engaged with one’s creativity on regular basis. Theatre in India is not a profession where one has ready-made opportunities. That’s the reason, for past 13 years, apart from being an actor, he has been producing theatre works for oneself and others. He really enjoys the process of collaborating with other artists and individuals as it challenges his own understanding, perspective and skill set.
Let’s explore and experience.
Art has a potential to uplift a human spirit and can actually work as a catalyst towards a positive change in a human life. We do a business of impacting and transforming human lives and we want to do it as successfully as possible. We will not conform to the set notions of the field and will always try to stay relevant to the times. We will also try to challenge ourselves and subsequently our audiences to grow and experience new dimensions of the field. We always strive to get the right blend of quality and entertainment. As a private limited company, we are open to collaborate with other individuals and organisations.
As theatre practitioners, we continually challenge ourselves to push the boundaries of our creative aspirations by exploring different forms, styles and content. Creation is an organic and intensive process for us, to achieve desired impact and authentic expression. Every theatre project of ours is an attempt to find that unique connect between us and our audience around issues we believe in.
Mumbai is a melting pot of many theatre companies, each with a distinct character and different audiences. The perfect scenario for any art form to thrive, but therein lies the economics of sustainability. Thus, it is our constant struggle to strike a balance between commercials and quality.
